A ghost followed me home - Part 1

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

“I shouldn’t have gone,” Kimmie whispered. “That was such a big mistake...”

“Why?” Her mind asked her menacingly with a slight echo. Kimmie shivered in her bedroom, sitting on her bed with her knees pulled up to her chest as she ignored the voice. Goosebumps covered her arms as she listened to the unsettling whispers that seemed to surround her, though she couldn't make out the words. The room was dark, with only the faint glow of a streetlamp casting eerie shadows through the window. The air was cold, as if a chill had settled deep within her bones, and she could not escape the sensation of being watched.

It had all started earlier that evening when Kimmie attended her best friend's birthday party. Andrew, the birthday boy, had decided to try something different and daring: a séance to contact his dead grandmother. He had lost her a few months prior, and the idea of reaching out to her from beyond the grave had been too tantalizing to resist for him. As one of the popular guys at their community college, Andrew was able to convince everybody else that it was a good idea.

Deep down, Kimmie had never been a believer in the supernatural, dismissing ghost stories as the stuff of fiction and overactive imaginations. And as the candles flickered and the group of friends joined hands around the table, she couldn't help but feel a growing sense of unease. There was something dark and ominous about what they were about to do. It just didn’t seem right to her. Their voices, low and hushed as they called out to Andrew's grandmother, seemed to reverberate throughout the room, like a chorus of ghosts themselves.

Then, just as the group was about to give up hope of receiving a response, Kimmie felt it: a shiver that started at the base of her spine and ran up her neck, causing the hairs on the back of her head to stand on end. The room grew colder, and she felt as if an icy hand had reached out and touched her very soul. Overcome with terror, Kimmie had ripped her hand away from the circle and fled the room, leaving her friends and the séance behind without saying another word. Now, almost an hour later, she sat alone in her bedroom, still trembling from the events of the night. Her mind raced, replaying the scene over and over again, searching for an explanation for what had happened. She had heard of the power of suggestion, but this felt all too real to be mere imagination.

As she contemplated the night's events, Kimmie became aware of a growing pressure within her, as if her body was no longer entirely her own. It started as a gentle push, barely noticeable, but it soon grew more insistent, and she found herself struggling to maintain control over her movements when a woman laughed in her head.
